EDUCATION SPECIALIST, EXTENSIVE SUPPORT NEEDS

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Teacher: Resource Specialist/Compliance

 

Under the direction of the Pupil Services Coordinator and the Director of Greater San Diego Academy, the Education Specialist (ESN) will work with individuals with exceptional needs, general education consultants, special education staff and parents in designing an instructional program, implementing services, and evaluating the effectiveness of instructional activities/strategies.  The purpose of this position will be to provide instructional planning, specialized instruction, or other services to individuals with exceptional needs who receive specialized academic instruction and/or related services associated with the Greater San Diego Academy’s non-classroom based (home school), Personalized Learning Program in which parents are the primary instructor.  Instruction will take place at the resource center located in Jamul, CA. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Certificated in the State of California

Valid Special Education Credential 

  • Moderate/Severe Education Specialist Credential or 
  • Education Specialist, Extensive Support Needs Credential

 

Must pass health screening and fingerprinting.  Must have current negative TB test results.

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Part-time position on campus 1 day per week (20% contract)
  • Start date: August 4, 2026

SALARY

  • Placement on Certificated Salary Schedule

SCHOOL GARDEN ASSISTANT


DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Responsible for maintaining the school garden and assisting classroom teachers in providing garden activities to students.

Director


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the school garden by watering, weeding, pruning, planting, harvesting, and performing general garden upkeep.
  • Monitor the health of plants and garden areas, identifying and addressing basic maintenance needs.
  • Prepare garden beds and seasonal planting areas to support educational and school-wide gardening activities.
  • Assist classroom teachers by providing age-appropriate garden-based lessons and hands-on learning experiences for students.
  • Support student engagement in gardening activities that reinforce science, nutrition, environmental stewardship, and outdoor learning objectives.
  • Organize and maintain garden tools, supplies, and materials in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Collaborate with school staff to plan and implement garden projects and activities.
  • Serve as an active member of the school's Garden Committee, attending meetings and contributing ideas for garden development and sustainability.
  • Assist with coordinating volunteer support and community involvement in garden-related activities, as needed.
  • Promote safe gardening practices and ensure students follow established safety procedures while working in the garden.
  • Maintain records of garden activities, seasonal planting schedules, and supply needs, as requested.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience gardening, landscaping, farming, or maintaining outdoor growing spaces.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with garden maintenance, including bending, kneeling, lifting up to 25 pounds, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Experience working with children or youth in an educational, recreational, volunteer, or community setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, staff, and volunteers.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to promoting environmental stewardship, outdoor education, and positive student engagement.
  • Ability to successfully pass required district background checks and meet all district employment requirements.
  • Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent 
  • Successful passage of pre-placement physical and evidence of current negative TB skin test.

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Part-time position averaging 4–6 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility based on seasonal garden needs and instructional activities.

SALARY

  • Placement on Classified Salary Schedule, Administrative Assistant range.
Greater San Diego Academy is a dependent charter of the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District.  As such all human resource processes are operated in conjunction with the district office.
