About Us

In September 1999, the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District opened the Greater San Diego Academy and authorized it to serve students in grades K-8. Ninth grade was added the following year followed by 10th, 11th and 12th. We now serve grades K-12.

The school was designed to improve services to existing independent study and home schooling students throughout San Diego County. Although proof of residency and inoculation records are required, it is
not necessary to have an inter-district transfer from your current district.

Admission to
Greater San Diego Academy is considered without regard to ethnicity, national origin, gender, disability, or achievement level.

Personalized Planning

Personalized Planning:
Effective school guidance depends primarily on an interested and informed staff that knows and understands students and the opportunities and requirements of the school program.

The Educational Consultant's role in guidance is:

• Pupil Appraisal: Using records to obtain information on students' aptitudes, achievements, interests, health, grades and plans.

• Orientation: Helping new students and parents understand traditions, regulations and programs offered by the Greater San Diego Academy.

• Information: Giving students information on educational opportunities, requirements and community resources.

• Counseling: Developing students' academic skills and knowledge commensurate with their maturity, observing and identifying problem of students, recording significant information about students, using the facilitation situation to foster individual adjustment and development, working with other Educational Consultants, parents and staff on individual cases, and/or referring students with special needs.

Standards-Based Curriculum

Standards-Based Curriculum:Each student, along with his/her parent, will be given the opportunity to choose the core curriculum that will be used for the school year.

Greater San Diego Academy has carefully selected a comprehensive curriculum core. With the California State Standards as a guide, you may choose from a number of different publishers to meet your child's needs.

A sample of the publishers we regularly offer include Houghton-Mifflin, Scott Foresman, Glencoe, Hampton-Brown, Steck-Vaughn, Lakeshore, Modern Curriculum Press, and more.

In addition to traditional textbook delivered curriculum, you have access to several sources for computer based or on-line assistance as well as the capacity to use elective funding for interest or needs based outside opportunities.
